IT ALL STARTS WITH A PLAN
better habitat = better hunting

its all about the land

Good habitat grows good deer. Its as simple as that.

A well managed property with good habitat will attract and hold more deer, better deer, and will result in more successful hunts.

If you're not getting the results you want out of your land the first place to start is the land itself. Things like nocturnal bucks, low deer numbers, unbalanced buck to doe numbers, and a lack of mature deer are all things that are often symptoms of a poorly managed property.

Get back to the basics of habitat management and turn your property into a place where big deer want to live because if you build it, they will come.

A good habitat management plan can be the difference between a mediocre property and a truly great one.

start with good info

If you fail to plan, you're planning to fail.

That's why its so important to start with a quality plan made with the help of a knowledgeable habitat expert when working on your property. You'll save yourself time, money, and a lot of effort instead of going through the trial and error of going it alone.

better habitat is what we do

We're built on helping landowners improve the quality of habitat and the quality of the hunting on their properties. It's all we do. We eat, sleep, and breathe this stuff 365 days a year. Its the core of our business and the passion of everyone on the team here at Whitetail Hill.

We cover everything

Comprehensive plans

Our plans are in-depth, thorough, and customized to each property.

For each property we address: Food Sources, TSI, Travel Corridors, Stand Placement and Hunter Access, Limiting Pressure, Bedding and Cover, and just about anything else that will help improve wildlife habitat on your property.

Our recommendations can help you see more deer, hold better deer on your property frequently, and harvest those deer more consistently.

How it works

Our process is designed to be easy for our customers and results in a quality habitat plan that is easy to follow and will transform your property:

Here's how:

Step 1: We set up a phone call to collect info about the property and what your goals are for it so we can tailor your plan to fit you. We may request photos of certain areas of the property from you so we can assess things like understory growth, existing food plots, timber species, etc. After purchasing here you'll be contacted to set this call up within a few business days.

Step 2: We build a comprehensive plan for your property. Leveraging the info you provide along with advanced digital mapping systems to analyze your property and build the best plan to help you meet your goals.

Your plan will include a detailed map of the property with recommendations for things like food plots, TSI work, tree plantings, travel corridors, stand locations, hunter access, water sources, etc. all mapped out for you.

In addition to this detailed map your plan includes an in-depth written guide prepared just for your property. It details exactly what steps to take to carry out your plan and make the necessary changes to your property along with info on how to best hunt your property.

Step 3: We present your plan to you via a video call where our habitat consultant will go over your map and written plan with you in detail and explain the strategy for your property. You'll get your questions answered and have the entire plan presented to you in an easy to understand and insightful way.

Want your property to be truly great hunting land? Then you need to start with a plan. If your property is not consistently producing the results you want then you need to take a look at the property itself and how you're hunting it. The parcels that consistently produce trophy harvests year after year and provide excellent hunting didn't happen by accident. They're the result of someone's hard work and, more important, a good solid plan for improving habitat and setting the property up to provide excellent hunting. All the hard work and money in the world won't help improve your property if its not put into the right things. That's why its so important to start with a plan for your property. If you have a background in conservation and habitat improvement then you're probably all set up, but if not it always pays dividends to get professional help so you don't waste time and money on the wrong things without a good plan.

We create hunting land improvement plans for any property anywhere in the country and for just about species you might want to benefit. Deer, turkeys, quail, waterfowl, small game, you name it we can help you optimize your property for it. We will build you a comprehensive plan for the property covering all the things that make up good habitat. For deer that might mean adding food plots, timbering or burning to improve bedding, or doing a canopy release in an oak flat to improve understory browse. For turkeys it might be creating nesting habitat, improving accessible mast production, or select killing of trees for roost sites.

We will analyze your property, see what it has and what it doesn't and what it needs most. We'll talk to you to determine what resources you're working with and what you have in mind for the property. We'll then build your plan to fit both your property and you. If you tell us you don't want loggers on your property, we wont make a new clear-cut a part of the plan. If you tell us you don't have access to equipment, we won't tell you to make a new 10 acre food plot. We want to make the absolute best out of your property and your resources.

Each time we look at a property we evaluate everything that will affect the quality of hunting on that property including:

  • Food sources (food plots, natural browse, and mast production)
  • Bedding and cover
  • Hunter access and limiting hunting pressure
  • Stand locations
  • Water sources
  • Travel corridors
  • TSI (Timber stand improvement)
  • Harvest rates
  • Prescribed burning
  • and a lot more...

Anything that needs to be changed will be noted in an extensive written plan. These can be up to a dozen pages or more of quality information depending on how much change your property needs. We will also create a detailed map of the property and recommended changes showing food plot locations, access routes, stand sites, travel corridors, tree planting sites, bedding, TSI work, etc. so you can visualize exactly how the property should be set up.

Your full plan, map and written plan, will be presented to you via a video call with your habitat consultant where they will go over the entire plan, Explain the strategy behind it, and answer any questions you may have!

To get started, just purchase our Hunting Land Improvement Plan right here on the website. Select the size of your property from the dropdown and check out. You'll receive 2 emails shortly after purchasing. One will be your order confirmation, the other will contain a link to set up a call with a habitat consultant. Use the link in the email to schedule a call. On that call your consultant will gather information from you about the property and your goals for it as well as the resources you have at your disposal. We will then analyze the property, develop your plan, and schedule a time to present that plan to you via a video call. We'll answer all of your questions about the plan and get you all set up to transform you property into something really special. The entire process typically take about 1-3 weeks on average from start to finish.

" I was afraid that the consult was going to be more of a trying to push products on me but it wasn’t like that at all. "

The consult went great! Mason was very helpful and communicated well throughout the process. He did great sharing his screen and going through the steps of how best to use my land and the tools and assets I have to reach the goals I had set for myself and the land. I appreciated him sending me the management plan so I can refer back to it as I work on the land. He seemed very knowledgeable of land and management tactics and was ready to answer all the questions I had. I was afraid that the consult was going to be more of a trying to push products on me but it wasn’t like that at all.

"A lot of good information"

The overall experience was great! For me, we have a new piece of property that I wanted to get some guidance on. This was a great opportunity to get the help we needed.

Mason was great at communicating, both in the beginning, and through the whole process. The management plan was laid out nicely. There is a lot of good information in the packet, and Mason explained everything thoroughly. I look forward to working the plan made for our property, and providing updates as it evolves.

"Including tips and tricks for simple projects like food plots and firebreaks all the way up to larger scale things"

I like that it’s almost ground level from including tips and tricks for simple projects like food plots and firebreaks all the way up to larger scale things. Mason did a good job explaining why he labeled certain areas and what to prioritize. Mason’s plan was similar to how I foresaw things needing to be done so hopefully having the extra influence of Mason’s plan will help set some wheels in motion. The last few years we’ve been so busy with other projects and had the hurricanes wreck the place things like food plots, shooting lanes and such have gotten less attention so hopefully we can make good progress this offseason and give us more time for attention to tree plantings, food plots and burning.

FAQs

We do not need to come to the property. With today's technology the amount of information we can gather about a property remotely is astounding. Any more info we need can be filled in by asking you some questions or asking you to provide a few photos of things like existing food plots, understory growth, water sources, etc. Between digital data and data you provide we can gather everything we need remotely.

This helps us keep prices affordable and the process smooth and simple for you. No giving tours, no travel expenses, no working around a busy schedule.

We cover everything relevant to your property and goals. If you're managing for deer that means food plots, mast trees, stand locations, access, travel routes, and more. If it's waterfowl we'll be looking at impoundment sites, water sources, crop planting and blind locations. Each plan is tailor made and covers everything needed to help you reach your goals for the property.

The initial phone call to gather info typically takes about 30-60 minutes. We typically take 1-2 weeks to complete your plan. Presenting your plan typically takes about an hour. On average expect to have a finished plan within a couple of weeks of purchasing. This can of course vary but on average that's what to expect.

No! If you hunt it we'll help you make your property better for it! Turkeys, quail, waterfowl, even small game like rabbits and squirrel. Just let us know what your focus is for the property and we'll make a plan to fit.

Absolutely. In fact small properties are some of the most rewarding ones to work on because that's where a good plan matters most. With limited ground to work with providing the essentials like cover, food, and access on a small parcel requires careful planning but small parcels of 10, 20, or 40 acres can absolutely provide excellent hunting if they are set up correctly.
