The only way to accurately determine what amendments your soil needs is by testing your soil. A small sample of soil is all that's needed to tell you exactly what fertilizer or pH amendments you need to apply to your soil to get it in tip top shape for planting. Without a soil test you're flying blind and you could be throwing money out the window on expensive fertilizer you don't even need. If your soil isn't right your plots will suffer.

What's more is studies have shown that plots grown in soil that has optimum levels of nutrients and pH are more palatable and more attractive to your deer. Ever had a nice looking plot but deer wont touch it? Your soil could be the reason. Nutrient imbalances can affect the taste of your plots and directly influence how attractive they are to deer. Organic matter, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, pH,
Buffer pH, Cation Exchange Capacity, and % Base Saturation
