What's the difference between Mast Magnet and Magnet Dust?
Mast Magnet is a bagged deer attractant you pour out: real extracts on a feed base of alfalfa, soybeans, black oil sunflower, and corn, in 8 lb and 20 lb bags. Magnet Dust is the same extracts as a concentrated powder in a shaker (2.5, 4, or 8 oz). You pour a bag. You dust with Dust, onto feed, a camera set, or the wind.
Can I use Mast Magnet and Magnet Dust together?
Yes. Pour Mast Magnet, then dust the pile and the trail leading to it with the matching Dust flavor. Persimmon Nut pairs with Original Chestnut & Persimmon, Apple with Apple, and White Oak Acorn with White Oak Acorn.
Which flavor should I start with?
If you've used Mast Magnet before, stay with Original. For a new site, Apple is our suggested start because deer everywhere already know the food profile. Deer on different properties key on different flavors, so if you'd rather find out what yours prefer, put two or three flavors out at once and let your camera decide.
Which size makes sense for me?
An 8 lb bag covers one or two sites for a few weeks, or a trial of a new flavor. If you've had a pile disappear faster than you expected, the 20 lb bag costs 15% less per pound and means fewer reorders. For Dust, match the bottle to how much feed you run: 2.5 oz for about three 50 lb bags, 4 oz for about five, 8 oz for about ten.
Can I use Magnet Dust without adding feed?
Yes. Dust a stump, log, or licking branch in front of your camera. The powder stays where you put it, so this is still an attractant in the eyes of most regulations. Check your state's rules; using it without feed doesn't change what's allowed.
What happens after rain?
Hard rain knocks scent down and can mat a pile. A couple of Mast Magnet reviewers said a site went quiet after heavy rain. Refresh a dusted camera set after a hard rain, and freshen a pile once things dry out. Neither product is rainproof, and we won't tell you otherwise.
Where do I check the rules on attractants and baiting?
Your state wildlife agency publishes the rules on feeding wildlife, attractants, and hunting over bait, and they vary by state, by season, and sometimes by county. Check before you put anything out. We can't give location-specific legal advice.
