Mix of clovers, chicory, and cereal grains designed to provide maximum attraction for both deer and turkeys with just one plot.

One of our most versatile mixes and a favorite for either species. Shade tolerance and the ability to use it in no-till plantings makes this mix adapted to places like logging roads and small openings. Plant it in small kill plots you can’t get to with big equipment or a wide open field. This is a perennial mix so it can last multiple years. Provides an excellent food source for deer all fall/winter and an explosion of growth for turkeys come Spring. High in protein, and highly palatable to deer and turkey, our special mix of clovers, chicory, and cereal grains does it all. One of the best plots you can plant for either species.

If you want to start doing more for your Spring time turkeys and while not sacrificing cool season plots for your deer, this is the mix for you. Plant Bucks and Beards and get the best of both worlds.

Ingredients:

3 Clovers

Triticale

Chicory

Joint Vetch

How we formulated this mix:

Triticale provides a fast growing and extremely hardy nurse crop to help establish the perennial clovers and chicory. All will provide forage for deer throughout fall and winter and really explode in growth early their first spring creating a magnet for turkeys in time for spring season. Triticale will often have grain heads come spring another favorite of turkeys. Native joint vetch will come in during the first spring/summer and provides excellent forage for both deer and turkeys. Turkeys especially love to forage among joint vetch as it is a major host for bugs which make up a large part of turkey’s natural diet. Persistent and highly adaptable it makes a preferred warm season deer forage to make this plot truly multi-season and multi-species.

Deer and turkeys, one plot

Why pick between deer and turkeys? Feed both.

Most plots are only designed for deer. Bucks & Beards does both — a versatile perennial blend of clovers, chicory, jointvetch, and cereal grains that feeds deer all fall and winter, then explodes into a turkey magnet come spring.

Shade-tolerant and no-till friendly, it thrives in logging roads, small openings, and kill plots you can't reach with big equipment. Plant once and get years of multi-season, multi-species action.

Built to perform

The best of both worlds

Deer and turkey in one
Clovers and chicory feed deer through fall and winter; explosive spring growth plus jointvetch pull turkeys like nothing else out there.
Perennial — lasts for years
Plant once and it keeps producing season after season with minimal upkeep.
Goes where big gear can't
Shade-tolerant and no-till friendly — perfect for logging roads, trails, and tucked-away openings.

Dead simple to plant

Three steps to a deer-and-turkey plot

1
Prep the seedbed
Disc, till, or plow — or go no-till and just rake/lightly expose the soil. Then smooth and firm it down.
2
Sow the seed
Small seed — don't bury it. Spread it right on the firmed, smoothed soil; ¼" is perfect.
3
Press it in
Cultipack or drive over the plot to press the seed into the soil for good seed-to-soil contact. That's all it needs.
